DISTINGUISHED YOUNG WOMEN
While I dabbled in quite a few extracurricular activities in high school, the one that had the biggest impact on me was easily a scholarship program called Distinguished Young Women. Formerly known as America's Junior Miss, the program has young women compete in 5 categories (self expression, scholastics, interview, talent, and fitness) to choose a representative for each community. It's a program that I highly endorse, as it's given me confidence, practical skills, as well as lifelong friends. I served as the Distinguished Young Woman of San Diego as well as California in 2014, and went on to place in the top 10 at the national finals. Whether it's at the gym, Stanford, or a random coffee shop, I've run into past participants everywhere and am so lucky to be part of the sisterhood.
